For any Wemo devices you have that are out of warranty, will not work with HomeKit or if you are unable to use HomeKit, we recommend disposing of these devices at an authorized e-waste recycling center.

After Futurehome went bankrupt, the company that took over operations decided to move to a subscription model. But customers did not just lose access to Futurehome’s cloud services thanks to this ‘lockout mechanism’, they lost access to local operation as well: the mobile app, all automations, and the hub’s local API integrations.

New Features

  • AI Is Here
There are now two new AI integrations in Home Assistant: AI Tasks and Suggest with AI

AI Task is a new integration that allows you to generate data using AI. You can attach files or cameras and ask it what is happening. The output can either be text or formatted in a data structure of your choice. This is all accessible from the new ai_task.generate_data action, which can be embedded in automations, scripts, and template entities.

When you activate the AI Task integration, Home Assistant can be configured to use that AI Task agent as a default. When this is turned on, Home Assistant will display AI Suggestion buttons around Home Assistant. For example when saving a new automation, Home Assistant can use AI to name, description, label and categorise your automations for you.

To support AI, there’s also a new AI integration for OpenRouter. OpenRouter is a unified LLM interface, which allows access to over 400 extra LLM models.

  • Streaming Text
Home Assistant has made some improvements to the way text to speech is processed, and will now start streaming text responses back to users while they might be still generating. This is useful for questions that have a long answer, you can start hearing the answer being spoke to you while Home Assistant is still reading the response to you. 2025.8 makes this available for voices provided by Home Assistant Cloud.
  • UI Changes
There’s some subtle UI changes in this release. Buttons around the interface are no longer capitalised, and have a rounded dull background making them more friendly

When opening a group more info panel, you can now control the states of individual light and cover entities
  • Matter
Now has support for microwave oven and temperature control device
  • Pi-hole
Users can now leverage API v6 functionality

    Side note: Pi-hole data breach
  • Immich
The self-hosted Google Photos alternative can now have files uploaded to it from Home Assistant
  • Reolink
Cameras now have WiFi signal sensors along with post-recording time controls, and pre-recording entities.

New Integrations

  • Ubiquiti UISP airOS
Monitor and manage your Ubiquiti airOS devices through the UISP platform, providing network performance metrics and device status information for your wireless infrastructure.
  • Uptime Kuma
Monitor the uptime and status of your services and websites with Uptime Kuma, keeping track of your infrastructure health directly in Home Assistant.
  • Volvo
Connect your Volvo vehicle to Home Assistant for remote monitoring of battery status, location, and other vehicle information.

Breaking Changes

  • Z-wave JS Version Bump
  • Media Players
The “standby” state for media players has been deprecated, and integrations are starting to be updated to remove this state. In this release media player entities from Roku, Apple TV, Cambridge Audio, LOOKin, Mediaroom, Snapcast, Sony Playstation 4 and Android Device Bridge will report their state as off when they previously would have reported standby as their state.
  • UniFi Protect
Support for UniFi Protect installations running on versions below 6.0.0 has been removed. If you are running an older version of UniFi Protect, you will need to upgrade to at least version 6.0.0 in order to continue using this integration. If you are already using version 6.0.0 or newer, and the user in use has sufficient permissions, the integration will attempt to automatically create a new API key. If this succeeds, no further action is required. If it fails, a reauthentication will be triggered, requiring you to re-enter your password and provide your API key manually.
