2025 is here and Home Assistant is kicking it off with a new cloud-ready backup solution, and a bunch of updates that have been making peoples heads scratch for a while
New Features
- Automated Backups
3 Backups
2 Locations
1 Offsite
Setting up Backups starts an onboarding flow
Prompts for en encryption key – all backups need to be encrypted. Home Assistant is taking the approach, they don’t trust wherever backups are being stored.
Time is roughly 5 in the morning, after database schdules have been run. Daily or weekly backup options available.
Can specify number of backups to keep, what to backup (media, addons etc)
If you have a Home Assistant cloud account, you can store the latest backup to your Nabu Casa account, limited to 5gb.
Backup locations can be extended, which means integrations in the future can be set to be a backup location. This means there is the ability for the community to create additional backup storage locations. Hoping to have more available in Feb 2025 release. - What the Heck?!
